Justice in Motion

Maine Transportation Justice Summit

Tuesday, October 29, 2024, 9am-3pm

Bangor Cross Insurance Center

Join us to connect, learn, and build momentum for accessible and equitable transportation in Maine!

Join the Moving Maine Network for an engaging one-day event focused on better transportation access for all Mainers – especially folks who can’t drive or struggle to afford transportation. The summit will offer a space to meet other advocates and practitioners, to build relationships, and to develop a shared vision for a transportation future that is rooted in equity and justice.

The program will feature:

  • Two energizing keynotes featuring inspiring voices in transportation justice Jose Richard Aviles of the Othering and Belonging Institute and Anna Letitia Zivarts, author of new book When Driving Is Not an Option: Steering Away from Car Dependency.

  • Initial findings from MMN’s Data and Story Collection Project outlining how transportation barriers are hurting Mainers, available to the public for the first time that day.

  • Robust opportunities for networking during a morning coffee break, lunchtime table discussions, and throughout the day.

  • Creation of a Shared Vision for universal transportation access in Maine, with the support of a visual facilitator, Brandon Black, who specializes in real-time scribing.

Who Should Attend

  • People with lived experience and expertise as nondrivers and users of public and community transportation.

  • Advocates for transportation access and equity – both paid and unpaid.

  • Staff and leaders in organizations that have a role in advancing transportation access and equity – including those focused on transportation, health care, public health, housing, aging, disability, education, and workforce development.

  • Everyone who cares about transportation justice!

Ticket Information

We are offering a sliding scale with four options.

  • Full-Price Ticket – $125: This ticket reflects the full cost of the event after factoring in sponsorships. It is the cost that we would charge all attendees in the absence of a sliding scale. If you have access to financial security, or an organization can pay for you to attend, then this price is for you.

  • Community, Student & Older Adult (Age 65+) Ticket – $75: This is a discounted ticket for those who are students, older adults, or part of a community effort – and have the ability to pay at this level.

  • Unsponsored Advocate Ticket – $25: This is a discounted ticket for people who are not affiliated with an organization and for whom paying the other ticket prices would be a barrier to participate in the summit.

  • Inclusive Access Ticket – $0: This is a no-cost ticket for people who could not participate in the summit if payment was required. Moving Maine has a limited number of these tickets.

Payment can be made by card or check. If you have a question, please reach out to us at info@movingmaine.org.

Accessibility

We aim to host an event that is inclusive and accessible and want your feedback to make sure we don’t miss anything! Please tell us what you need to fully participate in the event by answering the questions included in the registration. We will have ASL interpreting for the entire summit. For questions, please contact us at info@movingmaine.org.

Transportation

Moving Maine is committed to ensuring everyone has a ride to and from the Summit. We will coordinate rides and carpooling - and also have funds to reimburse a limited number of people for their travel costs when that is their preference. Please specify your needs and interest in the registration and we will follow up with you.

Food and Beverage

The summit registration fee covers a mid-morning snack, a box lunch, and beverages throughout the day. We will do our best to provide options for all dietary needs. Please indicate this during your registration.

Lodging

We have reserved a block of rooms at the Hollywood Casino Hotel Bangor for a rate of $159.99/night. To get the discounted rate, book directly online here and enter “MOVING” in the “enter rate/offer code” tab and select “Moving Maine Network”. Or, call 877-779-7771 and share the code “MOVING” to receive the discount. If you have any questions, please contact us at info@movingmaine.org.

We have a limited number of hotel rooms available at no cost to people who are traveling great distances and for whom paying lodging costs would create a barrier to attend the summit. If you would like to access this option, please indicate in your registration.
